ATP Finals: Daniel Medvedev's Historic Victory

Russia's Daniel Medvedev, a 24-year-old tennis star, defeated US Open champion and world number three Dominic Theme in the final of the ATP Finals in a hard-fought, hard-fought bout in three sets, the biggest of his tennis career. Won the title. He pulled his victory from the jaws of defeat in the final event of the tennis season. For the last ATP Finals event to be held in London, Dominic Theme was being declared the favorite in this final match. In the first set, Dominic Theme won the toss and elected to field. They were close to winning the final and were just one point away when Russian star Medvedev performed an extraordinary and incredible performance in the tiebreak, backed down and scored seven consecutive points in the tiebreaker to make it 7-6 in the second set. (7-2) made his name.

They took the match to the third and decisive set. In the third set, both players struggled to take the lead, but Medvedev strengthened his grip on the match with his lightning service, long releases, four-handed shots and ground strokes. The Russian athlete also took full advantage of his six-and-a-half-foot-tall stature. He came close to the net with lightning speed and slowed down the pace of the match with a drop shot. Daniel Medvedev won the third set by a margin of 6-4 to win the TP Finals final for the first time. The final score of the match was 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. With this victory, Medvedev also got 1500 ranking points and a prize money of 1564000 dollars. This was Dominic Theme's second consecutive defeat in the ATP Finals. Last year, Greece's Sistepas defeated Theme in the final.

Medvedev did not celebrate like the other players after the winning shot, but looked at the box and the empty stands, took the balls out of his pocket and threw them, and shrugged his shoulders twice. He then hugged and comforted his opponent for a long time. Medvedev said that the theme performed brilliantly. He is a difficult opponent but luck was with me. He came close to victory and got away. "I don't celebrate my success like other players, I just keep quiet. It's my own style," the Russian said. You may have noticed that there are many footballers who do not make a fuss like other players after scoring a goal in a match. I have adopted a style of silence like theirs and you will see my style in the future as well.

"I'm probably the only player in the tennis world to have adopted this style after the victory," Medvedev said. I adopted this style at the 2019 US Open tennis, where I had a hard time with the crowd. Medvedev lost to Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2019 US Open after a tough five-set contest. It was the first Grand Slam final of his career. In the fourth round of the Australian Open 2020, Medvedev was defeated by Stan Wawrinka, while last month, the Russian won the Paris Masters 1000 for the first time. Due to the Russian player's lightning speed, his opponents have called him a "machine". He has great skill in changing the direction of the ball.

The eight players who qualified for the ATP Finals 2020 were divided into two groups. Group Tokyo had world number one Novak Tsukovich, Daniel Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Diego Schwartzman in 1970, while Group London 2020 had Rafael Nadal, Dominic Theme, defending champions Stefanos Stasipas and Andrei Rublev. Roger Federer qualified for the event but withdrew due to knee surgery, after which he was replaced by No. 9 Dbgo Schwartzman in the rankings. Defending champion Stasippas won just one match against Rubelliff this time, while losing to Nadal and Thema.

Daniel Medvedev made his debut in the TP finals in 2019 to reach the top 8 in the world rankings. He did not win a match in last year's event and won only one seat in the entire tournament. He was beaten in the first round by Rafael Nadal in a hard-fought three-set contest and Medvedev won one. He was defeated by Stsipas and Zverev in other round matches.

Prior to Medvedev's historic feat in the ATP finals, there have been three occasions in other TP Masters tournaments where a player has beaten the top three players in the world rankings in the tournament. Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the 2007 Masters event in Montreal and David Nelbendian of Argentina in the 2007 tournament in Madrid defeated the top three players.

Daniel Medvedev won the first ATP title of his career at the Sydney International in 2018. He then went on to win the Winston Slim Outdoor Hard Court Tournament and the Tokyo Indoor Tournament. In 2019, the Russian athlete won four tournaments: the Sofia Indoor Hard Court Event, the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati, the St. Petersburg Indoor Hard Court and the ATP Masters Shanghai.
