US Open || Novak Dokovic Beats Olympic Tennis Champion Alexander Zverev

The German Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev was eliminated from the US Open after a big fight in the semifinals against the Serbian top favorite Novak Đoković . Six weeks after the success in Tokyo, the 24-year-old from Hamburg lost to ten-year-old Đoković in New York 6: 4, 2: 6, 4: 6, 6: 4, 2: 6.

Đoković will now face Russian Daniil Medwedew in the final on Sunday, who had prevailed 6: 4, 7: 5, 6: 2 against the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. Đoković thus still has the chance to become the first man in 52 years to win the Grand Slam from all four major tournaments in one calendar year. Rod Laver was last successful in 1969.

A triumph at the US Open would be Đoković's 21st tournament victory in a Grand Slam, making him the sole record holder. He currently shares the top spot in this ranking with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who also have 20 wins in a major.

Zverev, on the other hand, has to wait for his first triumph in a major one year after the lost Grand Slam final against Austrian Dominic Thiem, when he was only two points short of victory in New York. His streak of last 16 successful matches also ended.
