T20 Cricket World Cup | Australia's Successful Start To The T20 World Cup, Defeating South Africa

In the first match of the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup, Australia defeated South Africa by 5 wickets after a thrilling match.

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl in the Group One match played at Abu Dhabi's Zaid Cricket Stadium.

South Africa did not start well and were bowled out for 13 in the second over by skipper Temba Bauma.

After that, Rossi van der Dawson, who came to the crease to play with Quentin de Kock, could not stay on the crease for long and in the next over, Josh fell victim to Hazelwood.

De Kock's innings came to an end in the fifth over and he too was bowled by Hazelwood for 7 runs.

Eden Mercrum and Henry Klaassen put the team ahead, but Klaassen's courage paid off with a total of 46 and he was caught for 13.

After four wickets fell, Merkram was joined by David Miller, who went on to score 34 for the fifth wicket before the partnership could prove dangerous for Australia. Put a full stop ahead.

The South African team had not yet recovered from the loss that after two balls, Zampa finished the work of Devin Pretoris who could make only one run.

After a few balls, the excellent fielding of the Australian players forced Keshp Maharaj to return to the pavilion.

Mercury, who was at the other end, played an innings of 40 but was bowled by Mitchell Starc on the first ball of the 18th while Enrich Nokia also managed just two runs.

The score had just reached 20 when David Warner also walked after scoring just 14 runs.

Mitchell Marsh, who scored 11 off 17 balls, along with Steve Smith, took the score to 38, but his courage paid off at this stage.

After taking 3 wickets, Smith was joined by aggressive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and the two formed a crucial partnership of 43 runs to take the score to 80.

Before the match slipped out of South Africa's hands, Nokia took a crucial wicket from Steve Smith to give their side a crucial victory, while in the next over, Tabriz Shamsi scattered Maxwell's wickets, before both players were dismissed. Scored 35 and 18 runs.

At this stage, it seemed difficult for Australia to reach the target, but Marcus Stevens and Matthew Wade managed to get their team to the target with two balls to spare. Stevens scored 24 and Wade 15 runs.

Josh Hazelwood was declared the man of the match for his excellent bowling.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Australia captain Aaron Finch said, "The wicket looks great and we don't see it changing.

South African captain Temba Bauma admitted that he was feeling nervous.
