T20 World Cup: Defeat of Ireland, Sri Lanka Reached The Super 12
In the qualifying round of T20 World Cup 2021, Sri Lanka easily defeated Ireland by 70 runs with the help of the best all-rounder performance of Vinindu Hasaranga de Silva to win the second match in a row and qualify for the Super 12.
The two batsmen put on an excellent partnership for the fourth wicket to score 123 runs while the Sri Lankan team scored a total of 171 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
The Sri Lankan team struggled early in the innings when Paul Sterling sent Koshal Prapra back to the pavilion for zero off the second ball of the second over of the innings, at which time the Sri Lankan team scored only 8 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
After which Josh Little took 2 wickets off 2 balls and sent Dinesh Chandimal and Aushka Fernando back.
He was followed by Sri Lankan all-rounder Vinandoskaranga, who took charge of the batting, laying the groundwork for the Sri Lankan team's defensive collection and hitting four fours in a row off the balls of spinner Sami Singh.
He made his maiden half-century off 38 balls and upset the Irish bowlers, including a six off Mark Adair in his innings.
Pathum Nasanka also put up a strong fight and scored a half-century in short-form cricket, hitting six fours and a six in his 47-ball innings.
For Sri Lanka, spinner Mahesh Thakshana took 3 for 17 and the bowlers bowled out Ireland for 101 in 18.3 overs.
Ireland's Josh Little bowled his best in the T20 and took 4 wickets for 23 runs. The left-arm fast bowler also sent Pathum Nasanka to the pavilion during his 4 overs.
Before taking 50 wickets in Mark Adair's International Twenty20, Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Dasan Shinaka scored 21 off 11 unbeaten balls and was eventually bowled by Mark.
Sri Lanka's 71-run stand was the best player of the match while Pathum Nisanka played an unbeaten 61-run innings.
Captain Andy Bilburney was the top scorer for the losing Irish team with 41 runs and Curtis Cumber scored 24 runs. Apart from him, no batsman of the Irish team could cross the double digits.
The Irish team failed to cross Sri Lanka's target of 171 runs and the entire team was bowled out for 101 runs.
