Ural Alkali: Formula 1 Team Haas Separates From Driver And Russian Main Sponsor
Nikita Masepin's father is a co-owner of the Russian state company and Haas sponsor Uralkali. Pietro Fittipaldi could take Masepin's place in the squad.
The US Formula 1 team Haas has parted ways with Russian driver Nikita Masepin and main sponsor Uralkali with immediate effect. The team announced this on Twitter this Saturday.
"Like the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a quick and peaceful end to the conflict," the post said.
Haas team boss Gunther Steiner initially left open the future of Masepin as a driver and Uralkali as a financier after the Russian attack on Ukraine last week. Masepin's father is a co-owner of the state mining company.

The teammate of the German racing driver Mick Schumacher should have started under a neutral flag anyway in the coming season. In addition, the 23-year-old should have signed a code of conduct that documents, among other things, a clear distancing from Russia's actions.
It is not yet known which driver will replace Masepin. One candidate is probably the American-Brazilian reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi.
Masepin started his first Formula 1 season in 2021. Formula 1 had already canceled the Russian Grand Prix this year in view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In addition, the country was completely removed from the racing calendar. The first Grand Prix of 2022 will now take place in Bahrain on March 20th.
