Formula 1 For The First Time In Saudi Arabia

Formula 1 will be driving in Saudi Arabia for the first time next year. As the motorsport premier class announced on Thursday, a night race on a street circuit in Jeddah is planned for November 2021.

The port city in the west of the country lies on the Red Sea.

"The region is very important to us,"

said Formula 1 managing director Chase Carey, referring to 70 percent of the Saudi population who are under 30 years of age. It is curious to find "new fans".

For years, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi have been an integral part of the Formula 1 calendar in the Arab world as the premier class finals. The Saudi Arabian mineral oil company Aramco has been the main sponsor of the racing series since this year.

The human rights organization Amnesty International recently sharply criticized one of the events. With the guest appearance of the racing series, Saudi Arabia wanted to distract from the poor human rights situation in the state. Formula 1 plans a total of 23 Grand Prix for 2021. As usual in Australia, the season should start on March 21st.

According to Carey, the full provisional calendar will be presented "in the next few weeks."
