Djokovic Reaks Up With His Usual Coach

Marjan Vajda, the coach who has accompanied him in his 20 Grand Slam titles, leaves his team. Goran Ivanisevic will be his main coach.

The beginning of the year has been difficult for Novak Djokovic to digest. His expulsion from Australia and the loss of number one after his unexpected defeat in the quarterfinals of the Dubai tournament, is now joined by the departure of his team from the Slovakian Marjan Vajda, the coach who has accompanied him in his 20 Grand Slam.

As reported by the Serbian sports portal Sportklub, Vajda separates from the Serb. The 56-year-old Slovakian has been taking turns since 2019 with the Croatian Goran Ivanisevic when accompanying the Serbian tennis player to tournaments. But now he would have decided to leave Djokovic to spend more time with his family.

FIFA And UEFA Ban Russia From All Competitions

Vajda has coached Djokovic since 2006, with a one-year break between April 2017 and April 2018, and was part of his team as the player won each of his 20 Grand Slam titles. Although he was not with Djokovic in Melbourne, the Slovakian defended him after being deported for not being vaccinated. "He is strong and he has not said the last word about him in tennis."

The journalist who reveals the information, Sasa Ozmo, assures that the decision to break up was made by mutual agreement during the ATP Finals in Turin, where Djokovic fell in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev, and is not conditioned by the abrupt start of the year of the former number one in the world.

From now on, Goran Ivanisevic will be his main coach. The Croatian, who joined his team at Wimbledon 2019, was already in charge of accompanying him on the Australian tour, which ended with the tennis player's deportation. The rest of the team will remain as before.
